Lady Falcons Score 30-runs in First Two Victories on the Season

Kansas Christan secures their first 2-victories on the young season.  Josie Day gets the victory in both games.  In the first game, she started the game, pitching 6-innings, giving up 8-hits, 3-earned runs, 1-walk and 3-strikeouts.  In the 2nd game, she came on in relief.  Finishing off the game pitching the last 4-innings of the game.

In the first game, Kansas Chrsitian scored 7-runs after the first 2-innings.  In the first-inning, four straight Falcons reached base and all (4) came around to score.  In the second-inning, the first five batters reached and three of them scored.  Lauren Shafer started off the inning on a solo shot to left field.  And, that was all the Falcons needed to clinch their first win of the season.

The second game, was a little in reverse.  Hannibal LaGrange scored 7-runs in the first inning and 3-runs in 3rd.  Going into the bottom of the 3rd inning, Kansas Christian was down 11-3 and it was looking like we might can run-rulled early.  But, the Falcons would not go down without a fight.  Josie Day started off with a double to deep right-center, Jadyn Clark walked, Angela Akerstrom loaded the bases with a single to left.  Cherie Green singled thru the hole at 2nd base to knock in the first run.  Lauren Shafter walked a run home.  Haven Trembly was hit-by-a-pitch and another runner crossed the plate.  Then, the seventh batter of the inning stepped to plate, Kaylee Clifton.  Kaylee hit a 1-2 count grand slam over the left field fence, totalling 7-runs crossing the plate that inning and all being done with no outs.

With this display of offense, this knocked out Hanibal LaGranges starting pitcher.  One out was recorded and then another 6-runs scored in the inning, bringing the total to 13-runs in the bottom half of the 3rd inning.  Angela Akerstrom, Cherie Green and Haven Trembley all recorded doubles that resulted in 5-runs batter in. The 13-runs scored in the inning was a school record.  The previous record was 6-runs scored against Ecclesia on 4/14/2023 and against Bethel this year on 2/27/2024.

Hannibal LaGrange would try to take the lead later in the game by scoring two in the fifth, three in the sixth and had a runner on first base with no-outs in the top half of the seventh inning.  Josie Day beared down and relied on her defense behind her to get through the inning and secure Kansas Christians 2nd-win on the season and her 2nd-win of the day.

Josie Day had a good day at the plate too, by going 3-6, 3-runs, 2-rbis, 3-walks and 2-doubles.  Lauren Shafer added a stat line of 3-5, 5-runs, 3-rbis, 2-walks, 2-home runs.  Kaylee Clifton had a good day as well, going 4-7, 2-runs, 7-rbis, 2-home runs.  The other homerun came off the bat of Angela Akerstrom.  As a team, Kansas Christian hit .467 (28-60), 24-runs driven in, 7-walks.

The Lady Falcons will take on the (9-7) Warriors of Sterling College on March 7th at 1pm & 3pm at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City.  Come out and root for our ladies as they compete for victory.
