Falcons Claim Central Region Championship

The Kansas Christian College men's soccer team won the 2023 NCCAA Division II Central Region Championship on Friday! It is the first regional championship for the Falcons since 2019. The Falcons claimed the championship with a 4-3 victory over Manhattan Christian College at Central Bank Sporting Complex where Spurgeon College hosted the regional tournament. 

Felipe Pampolim opened the scoring with a goal in the 16th minute of the match. Just a few minutes later, Roberto Mugabe made it 2-0 in favor of the Falcons scoring on an assist from Elio Pereira. Manhattan Christian bounced right back cutting the lead in half with a goal of their own at the 23 minute mark. The Falcons would make it 3-1 heading into halftime on a goal from Elio Pereira assisted by Felipe Pampolim

In the second half, Manhattan pulled back within on at the 54 minute mark. One minute later, Elio Pereira sent his second assist of the game to Jose Reyes for a goal to make the score 4-2. Manhattan found another goal in the closing minutes, but it wouldn't be enough as Kansas Christian won the game 4-3. 

With the regional championship win, Kansas Christian qualifies for the NCCAA Division II Men's Soccer National Championship. The championship will be held at Austin-Tindall Sports Complex in Kissimmee, FL. Games begin on Tuesday, November 14 at 3pm. The final bracket is not yet released.
