The Kansas Christian baseball team finished off a four game series with a double header in Seneca, Mo. against Ecclesia College on Saturday. The Falcons swept the double header once again from the Royals and are now 4-0 in conference play. Kansas Christian is 14-9 on the season.
The two wins came despite bone-chilling temperatures in the low 30s with winds in excess of 15 miles per hour from the northwest. The Falcons would get behind early with Ecclesia scoring two runs in the fourth, but Kansas Christian plated a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a 3-2 lead. Leandro Mendez exited the game after six innings pitched. Mendez was in line for the win when Cody Ziegelmeyer took the mound in the seventh. The Royals loaded the bases with nobody out before Ziegelmeyer escaped the jam with a strikeout, a fielder's choice and another strikeout to win the game for the Falcons 3-2.
Jackson Showalter and Carlos Jones had the only two hits of the game for the Falcons. Showalter also had an RBI while Chris Hunter had an RBI as well. Ben Shively walked twice. Jabari Walker, Jacob Strobel, and Eddie Grayson each stole a base.
In game two, Juan Polo took the mound and tossed a complete game allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out nine and walking two. The Falcons scored twice in the fourth and twice in the sixth on their way to a 4-2 victory. Chris Hunter paced the offense with three hits. Ben Shively singled and drove in two runs. Kris Davis also drove in two with a pair of RBI groundouts.
The baseball team now prepares for a four game sereis at College of the Ozarks this weekend on Friday and Saturday in Point Lookout, Mo.
