The Kansas Christian baseball team went 2-2 at the Rube Foster Classic hosted by the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy this weekend. The Falcons are now 6-5 on the season.
In the first game of the classic the Falcons beat Tabor 5-2. Tabor was preseason ranked #18 in the NAIA and came into the matchup with an 9-5 record before falling to the Falcons. Leandro Mendez started on the mound and went the distance pitching seven innings allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits. He walked three and struck out four. Kansas Christian stole four bases in the win. Jesus Reyes, Stay'Jawn Hunter, Brilynn Stults, and Kris Davis each had two hits. Reyes and Hunter had an RBI. Derek Prensa delivered a clutch two out, two RBI single in the victory.
The Falcons claimed a 5-4 win over Harris Stowe as they swept the first day of the classic. Harris Stowe led 2-0 heading into the fifth inning before the Falcons plated three runs. Harris Stowe scored twice to take the lead in the top of the seventh, but the Falcons answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning for a walk off victory on Jacob Strobel's sacrifice fly to right that scored Derek Prensa. Brilynn Stults had two hits and an RBI. Chris Hunter, Jesus Reyes, Stay'Jawn Hunter, and Kris Davis each had one hit. Cody Ziegelmeyer pitched a complete game for the win allowing four runs on seven hits.
The Falcons dropped their first game of the Rube Foster Classic on Monday when they fell to Northwestern 10-1. Juan Polo took the loss on the mound. Brilynn Stults had two hits for the third straight game. The Falcons then fell 3-2 to William Penn in the final game of the classic. William Penn got two runs in the first inning, but the Falcons tied the game with a run in the second and third. William Penn would score in the botom of the sixth and hold off the Falcons in the seventh for the win however. Stay'Jawn Hunter and Ben Shively each had two hits. Shively had a double and Hunter had a triple. Emmett Lafleur threw a complete game in the loss. He tossed six innings and allowed three runs on four hits, striking out two and walking four.
