Falcons Finish 1-3 at Central Baptist

The Kansas Christian baseball team traveled to Conway, Ark. for a four game series at NAIA opponent, Central Baptist this weekend. The Falcons would win one of the four games and are now 4-3 on the season. Kansas Christian is opening the season with 19 straight games against NAIA opponents. 

In the first game of the series, Central Baptist scored three runs in the first and two in the second to take the early lead. Kansas Christian rallied with four runs in the third, but that would be all they got falling 6-4 in the game. Leandro Mendez took the loss on the mound tossing a complete game allowing just four hits and four walks while striking out seven. Chris Hunter, Jesus Reyes, and Brilynn Stults all logged two hits in the game. Reyes drove in three runs on his three run home run in the third inning. Jackson Showalter, Stay'Jawn Hunter, and Brilynn Stults all hits doubles. Stults also drove in a run. 

Game two saw Cody Ziegelmeyer take the mound for the Falcons in his second start of the season. Ziegelmeyer would go the distance in earning the win for the Falcons. He allowed three runs on six hits striking out four and walking three in the win. Kansas Christian scored three times in the second inning and tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win the game 5-3. Chris Hunter, Jesus Reyes, Jackson Showalter and Derek Prensa all had hits. Brey Turner and Prensa had an RBI while Jesus Reyes had two RBIs. 

Juan Polo started game three on the mound tossing five innings allowing three runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out 11. Polo has struck out 11 batters in each of his first two starts. Tommy Thomas pitched one inning in relief allowing one unearned run. The Falcon bats were silent though as they managed just two runs in the game and fell 4-2. Stay'Jawn Hunter, Brilynn Stults, and Jackson Showalter had the three hits for the Falcons. 

In the final game of the series the Falcons fell 5-0. Emmett Lafleur threw five innings and allowed five runs, two earned. Hw walked two and struck out two. Logan Wallace pitched in relief retiring the first batter he faced before walking the next three. Grant Claycomb then entered the game and escaped a bases loaded one-out jam. Jesus Reyes, Abram Stewart, Kris Davis, and Mikal Whisler each had a hit. 

This weekend the Falcons will compete in the Rube Foster Classic hosted by the MLB Kansas City Urban Youth Academy where the Falcons play their home games. NAIA teams from around the country will be competing in the classic. Kansas Christian is scheduled to take on Northwestern at 11am and William Penn at 1:30pm on Friday. On Saturday, they play Tabor College at 1pm and Harris Stowe at 3:30pm. Keep an eye on the Kansas Christian College Falcons Facebook page for updates on schedule changes due to weather.
