The Kansas Christian baseball team opened their 2023 schedule with three wins in Arkansas this weekend. The Falcons competed in two games against Crowley's Ridge College and one against Arkansas Baptist.
In the first game of the season against Crowley's Ridge, the Falcons were locked in a pitcher's dual. Leandro Mendez tossed a complete game shutout throwing seven innings and striking out 11 batters. He allowed just two hits. The Falcons scored a run after loading the bases with nobody out in the first inning. Brilynn Stults sent an RBI single into right field, but that was all the Falcons would get for the remainder of the game as they earned a 1-0 victory.
The second game of the weekend came against Arkansas Baptist. The Falcons plated five runs in the first inning then were delayed by rain on Friday. The game resumed on Saturday. The Falcons proceeded to score 10 more times after resuming play and won 15-5.
Brilynn Stults had a team high three hits in the win. He drove in two runs. Stay'Jawn Hunter went two for four, drove in two runs, and scored two runs. Parker Bryant drove in three runs, had a hit, and scored a run. Jesus Reyes, Ben Shively, and Brey Turner each had two hits as well. Cody Ziegelmeyer started on the mound and earned the win. Emmett Lafleur threw three scoreless innings in relief and Tommy Thomas pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.
In the final game of the weekend, the Falcons beat Crowley's Ridge 16-2. Juan Polo threw five innings and allowed just one run while striking out 11 and walking five. The Falcons scored three times in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, the Falcons scored multiple runs in every inning the rest of the way including a six run sixth inning.
Chris Hunter paced the offense with three hits, three runs and an RBI. Brey Turner also had three hits and scored a run. Jackson Showalter had two hits and drove in three runs. Showalter hit the first home run of the season for the Falcons with a two run home run in the fifth inning. Ben Shively scored three runs and had an RBI to go with his two hits. Stay'Jawn Hunter had two hits and three RBIs. Kris Davis also had two hits and scored a run.
